A concert by two American pianists, Pamela Howland and Stan Breckenridge, who will take you on a journey through decades of American music.
Piano and vocal performances will include styles such as spirituals, folk songs, ragtime, blues, New Orleans jazz, swing, fusion of classical and jazz, cool, soul, and pop. Pamela Howland and Stan Breckenridge will perform these styles as individuals, then come together in a spectacular performance of Piano Music for Four Hands! Pamela Howland - A gifted American pianist and Steinway Artist who breathes life and vitality into classical music for audiences of any age or background. Vivacious, imaginative, sensitive and just a trifle unconventional, she is that rare classically trained performing artist who thrives as an entertainer. She received the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, and has appeared from coast to coast in the United States as both soloist and chamber musician. Highlights include numerous appearances in Warsaw, Paris, and Vienna and live solo appearances on National Public Radio broadcasts in Minnesota, New York, and North Carolina. She toured Poland most recently in 2012 and 2013, under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. In 2012 she created her documentary film “Remembering Frederic: The Genius of Chopin.”
Stan Breckenridge - Academician, author, composer, vocalist and pianist, recording artist and performer, and holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from Claremont Graduate University. He is Co-chair of African American Studies at Cal State University, Fullerton. Dr. Breckenridge served as a Distinguished Chair Fulbright Scholar in Poland, 2012-2014, and now serves as a Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador. He continues to perform internationally in France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, Slovakia, and the Ukraine, as well as nationally. Stan Breckenridge has appeared with and/or performed for personalities such as Madeleine Albright, Scott Baio, Jerry Lewis, Moms Mabley, Greg Morris, Martha Reeves, Sam Riddle, David Ruffin, Rowan and Martin, Nancy Sinatra, Lea Thompson, John Travolta, John Wayne, and many others. He is author of such books as: „Popular Music in America: Forging the American Spirit” (2012), „African American Music For Everyone” (2006).
